On the 2010 Cadillac SRX, the P0496 is pointing to a problem with the EVAP (emissions control/recovery) Purge System. More commonly here, the problem will lie in the EVAP Canister Purge Solenoid Valve. It’s located on the top of the engine. Remove the engine cover to gain access. Carefully inspect the vacuum lines for any cracks, holes or disconnections. Inspect the electrical connector for any loose, broken or damaged wires. If the inspections check ok, a scan-tool should be used to monitor the fuel tank pressure sensor. The Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor parameter should be less than 1.7 volts after 90 seconds. If the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor parameter is greater than the specified range, replace the EVAP Canister Purge Solenoid Valve.
