On the 2008 Toyota Corolla, when both the P0441 and P0455 codes are set together, the most common problem here is going to be a Software issue of the on-board computer. Toyota has issued a Technical Service Bulletin that states:
“Some 2008 model year Corolla and Matrix vehicles will set a M.I.L. “ON” DTC P0441, and/or P0455 as a result of the Purge VSV being continuously grounded by the ECM (PCM) instead of the normal duty cycled ground.”
First, check the operation of the Purge VSV. Inspect the vacuum lines to/from the VSV for any cracks, holes or loose/missing connections. Inspect the electrical connector and harness for any loose, broken or damaged wires. If these all check ok, then the correct repair will be to replace the PCM and have it programmed with the updated software. There is a warranty in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first, for this issue.
