On the 2007 Kia Sorento, to access the spark plug for Cylinder #3, the Upper Intake (aka “Surge Tank”) will need to be removed. It is “safe” for a DIY’er to accomplish this. However, there are a couple of things you will need to keep in mind. When re-installing the Surge Tank, you MUST use new gaskets. The mounting surfaces MUST be completely clean and smooth. There must be NO air leaks here what so ever, as this WILL result in engine performance issues. When mounting the Surge Tank back on, the bolts MUST be torqued to the correct pounds or a leak will occur. An air leak will result in engine performance issues. If you do not have access to a Torque Wrench, you can usually rent one at any local “big chain” parts store.
