On the 2001 Pontiac TransAm, when the vehicle will not start due to a “Security” light on the dash, SOMETIMES, if the problem lies in the reader internal of the ignition lock cylinder, you can reset the Security System with the 10-minute relearn procedure

-Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

-Start the engine (which shouldn’t start), then release the key but leave it on the “ON” position.
-Watch the Security Light. After approximately 10 minutes, the Security Light will turn OFF.
-Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
-Start the vehicle

If the vehicle does not start, then unfortunately, the problem lies elsewhere in the security system and proper diagnosis will require the use of a scan-tool that can interact with the Body Control Module. There ARE however, bypass kits available through aftermarket sources. This may be something to look into if you have some repair experience and are not too concerned with a functioning theft system.
