On the 2001 Ford E-150 with the 5.4L engine, the P1405 is a fairly straight forward code pointing to a problem withe DPFE (Differential Pressure Feedback EGR) Sensor. Very commonly here, this is a crack, hole or disconnection in the rubber lines going to the bottom of the sensor. Many times, this is simply due to time and dried out and brittle lines. So make sure to check this very carefully first. Make sure to include the EGR Tube itself for any cracks or holes in the inspection, as this is common as well. If no leaks are found, the DPFE (Differential Pressure Feedback EGR) Sensor will need to be replaced. It’s located on the top, driver’s side of the engine, just below the throttle body.
