On the 2000 Chevy Silverado, the P0440 is pointing to a fault in the EVAP (emissions control/recovery) System. Unfortunately, it’s a fairly “general” code and there a few different things that can set this code. This can be a leak in the system, a problem with the EVAP Purge Solenoid, a problem in the EVAP Vent Solenoid, a problem with the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor or a problem with the Canister itself. There will be some testing procedure that will need to be done to find the root of the problem.
